Outreach Strategy

Good morning Faculty and Students,

The calendar says it is fall and it sure is cooling down out there! I hope that each of your semesters if off to an excellent start.  I'd like to remind all of you that I strive to maintain an "open-door" policy.  Please come see me during my designated office hours should you have any questions, concerns, or simply want to chat!

I'd like to utilize today's blog post to talk with all of you about the Outreach Strategy I've developed during my years in the College of EHBJ as Dean.  When I took this position six years ago, I did so with the belief that one of the Dean's primary responsibilities was to serve as a liaison to the professions the school serves.  I wanted to be "outreach-oriented."  With this mindset, I've developed an Outreach Strategy keeping the following in mind.

I recognize that one day our students may work in the businesses and organizations surrounding our school.  Therefore, I feel that it is important to develop relationships with these future employers.  I see that public officials are those who license and regulate our school's programs and those professionals and legislators who frame the rules that govern the professions related to our school require a major presence by the Dean.  I insist on working to build and maintain positive relationships with these organizations and professional contacts, as I see the impact that they can and will have on our school's programs and the futures of our current students.  I aim to serve organizations in our community just as they serve us.  I have invested a great deal of time participating in organizations where professional contacts exist.  Remaining outreach-oriented does require time, but I hope that you all can see the benefits it reaps and the positive impact it has on our school's programming and our students' futures.

As always, please do not hesitate to stop by my office or contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Best,
Dean Wilson
